How do I system restore my IBM Thinkpad X60?
I don't want to use the crappy Thinkvantage feature, I want to restore the whole operating system. My uncle gave me this computer and it was in Chinese, which doesn't help my case either. It doesn't have a CD drive, which is a big problem, and I really need this computer working. I would really appreciate it if someone specified what I would need to do to fix this computer.
Not having a CD drive is a bad sign. Is it worth salvaging? It can be done in a variety of ways. First do you have a legal copy of windows that you can install?
You can reconnect the laptop hard drive to another PC with a CD ROM and format the laptop drive and copy windows over so you can install it after you reinstall the drive.
If your uncle is around and speaks Chinese you can network it and copy the req files over the LAN. Then reformat and reinstall.
If you have a copy of Norton Ghost you can ghost over an image.
You can try to get a hold of an OEM restore disk through the manufacturer, dealer or ebay.
You can get an external CD drive to read any CD/s.
