What is a safe, effective way to remove the gold from old circuit boards?
I've heard that old computer boards and cpus and some electronic circuit boards contain small amounts of gold in them that can be collected. For example the pin connectors of ram modules are said to have a layer of gold on them that is a few 10,000ths of an inch thick, which isn't much, but if you had enough of them and could collect even a tenth of an ounce of it, it might be worth around $100? Can the gold be found in between the silicon layers of the boards themselves or just on pins and connectors? Any idea what the purity/carat grade of this might be? Also, what are the cpu pins made of? I've heard there are safe ways of removing the gold with non-toxic chemical solutions like iodine. I realize there are several questions here and I don't expect any answer to all of them but a comprehensive answer would be appreciated. Thanks.
you won't get rich off that, or even make a large sum of money. your better of trying to get the silver from it. best way to do it is to apply heat, each metal melts a different temperature, (for the most part)
